Community Unites at #SpeakOut 2025 to Uplift Survivor Voices

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Survivors, Advocates, and Allies Unite at #SpeakOut 2025 to Uplift Voices and Build Community

Portland, OR — August 2, 2025 — More than 100 survivors, advocates, and allies gathered in downtown Portland for #SpeakOut 2025, an annual community event hosted by FinAbility to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence, promote healing, and connect survivors with critical resources.

Held at NW 13th Plaza, this year’s event featured:

  • 12 powerful survivor stories shared during an open-mic forum
  • A Net Promoter Score of 92, reflecting overwhelmingly positive attendee feedback
  • 20 local nonprofits offering free support services and educational resources

Guests experienced an evening of storytelling, connection, and hope. “Every story shared broke the silence that abuse depends on, while also creating space to proess grief, heal, and spread joy. That’s what #SpeakOut is about,” said Stacy Sawin, Founder and CEO of FinAbility.

The event also included:

  • A community resource fair featuring organizations like Rose Haven, Q Center, and MFS CASH Oregon
  • On-site ASL interpretation and a child play area to ensure accessibility
  • Volunteer support from local credit unions and domestic violence service providers

#SpeakOut 2025 continues to grow each year, creating space for collective healing and sparking long-overdue conversations about the intersection of abuse and financial insecurity.

FinAbility is a Portland-based nonprofit that financially empowers survivors of domestic violence. Since 2021, FinAbility has helped over 55,000 survivors access trauma-informed financial education, peer mentorship, and tools to build long-term economic security.
